If you’re organization is an official/legal charity organization, you can qualify for $10,000 in free advertising from Google – no joke. It’s called AdWords for Nonprofits. Keep reading and I will show you how to get started today.
One of the best marketing resources for churches and non-profits is Google for Nonprofits. It comes with some premium Google products that nonprofits can use (for free), and one of those products is Google Ad Grants.
According to Google, Google Ad Grants is, “the nonprofit edition of Adwords, Google’s online advertising tool.” In order to be eligible for the Ad Grants program, your nonprofit must: (1) hold current and valid charity status (as determined by your country), and also (2) not be a government entity/organization, hospital or medical group, school, childcare center, or academic institution/university. (Ad Grants are currently not available for these types of organizations.)
When your organization is accepted into the Google for Nonprofits program and Google Ad Grants program, your organization gets $10,000 in AdWords advertising money for free each month (yes, each MONTH!). While there are a few parameters you must stay within (so that you don’t lose the Ad Grants money), you can still accomplish a lot with the $10,ooo AdWords budget.
Here are the exact steps to take to get started with Google Ad Grants:
NOTE: I’ve done this process for various nonprofit clients of mine. If your
organization would like to hire me to do this for you, contact me here.
Step 1: Join Google for Non-Profits
Before you can apply for Google Ad Grants, you need to join Google for Nonprofits. After you fill out the application and submit it to Google, your organization will go into a review process. After your Google for Nonprofits application is reviewed by Google and accepted, your organization can then enroll in Google Ad Grants to receive the $10,000 of AdWords advertising money.
Step 2: Create new google account, create first AdWords campaign and ad, and enroll in Google Ad Grants
After you’re accepted into Google for Nonprofits, you’ll be eligible to apply for Google Ad Grants (this is another application process).
Before you can submit your Ad Grants application, you’ll need to setup a new Google account and create your first AdWords campaign and ad. Don’t fill out the billing information, even in you’re asked to do so. (You can use this link to create a Google account.) You’ll need to submit your new Google AdWords account ID with the Ad Grants application, so this is a required step.
What I recommend, is setting up a basic AdWords campaign targeting your homepage. After you’re accepted into Ad Grants program, you can go back and create many more campaigns and ad groups. Remember to stay within these parameters:
- Search Network Only Campaigns
- $2.00 Max Cost-Per-Click
- Only run keyword-targeted campaigns
- Only run text ads
- Only appear on Google search results pages (not search partners)
Step 3: Keep your AdWords Account actively managed and updated
Congratulations! If you’ve reached this step, it means that you’ve been accepted into Google Ad Grants program and have received $10,000 in free AdWords advertising from Google!
Remember, you must keep your AdWords account actively managed in order to keep your Ad Grants status, and you must stay within these parameters in order for your account to remain in good standing:
- Search Network Only Campaigns
- $2.00 Max Cost-Per-Click
- Only run keyword-targeted campaigns
- Only run text ads
- Only appear on Google search results pages (not search partners)
If at any point you get stuck or confused along the way, there is a great guide you can download from Google on this page for free.
