Reading has become one of my favorite things to do in life. There is so much you can learn from the wisdom and experience people share in books. Books inspire, offer hope, encourage, motivate, challenge, and change us for the better. (well, at least the good ones do.) Reading is also great for your mind.
I see reading as going on a journey – a vacation, you might say – with the author of the book.
When you read a book, you get to go on a journey with the author. The author is taking you on a trip through the stories, experiences, lessons, and wisdom he/she learned along the way. And you get to benefit from their brilliant masterpiece they’ve created in the book.
As a college student, I have the next 3 1/2 weeks off for winter break, and I am SO stoked, mainly because I get to read whatever I want.
I’ve been brainstorming a list of books to read over the holidays/winter break, and I’ve nailed down five I plan to read. I decided to share with you all what I’m reading this holiday season, and I’d love to hear what you are reading during the holidays as well.
Listed below is my winter break reading list, with a short description about each book. Please feel free to share what books you are currently reading and/or planning to read during the holidays this year in the comments below!
1. Generous Justice by Tim Keller
- Being changed by God’s grace leads to a life of justice. What is justice? What does it mean to “do justice” and “live justly”? Timothy Keller explains all that and more in this book, revealing how receiving God’s grace leads to a life of living/doing justice. (Note: I am reading this book now and it is SO GOOD!)
2. The Education of Millionaires by Michael Ellsberg
- Most people think that going to college and getting a degree automatically entitles them to a good paying job and successful career. But that is not usually the case for most people. There are a lot of other skills you need in order to succeed professionally, many of which you don’t learn in college. Michael Ellsberg shows what those skills are and how to get them, profiling millionaires throughout history who’ve done just what he writes about. I’ve read portions of this book so far, and it is captivating! Can’t wait to dive into the whole thing.
3. Trust Agents by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith
- This book by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith is a book about the internet and earning trust – one of the most important currencies online for people and brands – on the worldwide web. This is a book about social media, the web, earning trust, and becoming an online influencer. I read Chris Brogan’s blog and it is SUPER good, so I am sure this book will be great.
4. The Accidental Creative by Todd Henry
- I’ve found that books on creativity are invaluable no matter what field of work you are in, because creativity is something that benefits every individual and organization. This book was recommended by a fellow blogger through the Problogger website as a must-read book for bloggers, so I decided to check it out.
5. We Are All Weird by Seth Godin
- Seth Godin is the man and marketing guru who first got me interested in business and marketing. I’ve read other books of his, such as Linchpin, Tribes, and Poke the Box, and they were all phenomenal! This one, published by his publishing venture The Domino Project, is bound to be another gem. A book about marketing and how being weird is actually an advantage to the marketer. (Note: even if you are not a marketer, you will find seth’s blog and books to be incredibly inspiring and helpful. Definitely worth reading!)
Question: What are you reading during this holiday season? Please share with us in the comments below!

I read Christopher Yuan’s book, and a biography on Winston Churchill. Wanted to read more, but didn’t have time.
