“It doesn’t matter who you are, you are not excluded from this covenant of love and grace. You are not shut out from the assembly of God no matter what you’ve done, or what you’ve failed to do. You belong for one simple reason. God chooses to gift love.”
-Shane Hipps
One summer, my friend Dave and I attended a conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The conference was a three-day conference on public speaking, hosted by author Rob Bell.
To this day, my friend and I look back at those three days as one of the highlights of our lives. It was that good.
One of the guest speakers at the event was pastor & author Shane Hipps. I had heard of Shane before, but never listened to him speak.
He talked about technology, faith, Jesus, and life, and how they are all connected and related. I was blown away by the connections he was making!
Thankfully, Shane just published a NEW book: Selling Water by the River: A Book about the Life Jesus Promised and the Religion That Gets in the Way.
His book is about letting God and the Scriptures speak a fresh word to us – a fresh word about the new life Jesus offers the world, how Christianity gets in the way (sometime without realizing it), what it means to be a Christian, and who God really is.
Four reasons why I REALLY enjoyed this book:
- Shane challenges many of the blindly accepted “facts” of the Christian faith and gospel, showing how Christianity can actually (unintentionally) get in the way of who Jesus is and what Jesus is trying to do in he world.
- Shane expounds on what the good news is, helping you see (and appreciate) Jesus and the gospel with new, fresh, grateful eyes.
- The writing is clear and compelling, with storytelling and scripture that keeps you engaged with each page.
- Most importantly, you will understand what God is like more clearly after reading this book – something that influences your actions, behaviors, and every decision you make.
Shane Hipps’ new book Selling Water By the River is one of my favorite books about Christianity that I’ve ever read. I highly recommend you pick up a copy today (affiliate link).
